Rust's in-game Official tab against everything elseOfficial servers are the ones in Rust's in-game Official tab: Facepunch's own and its partners', such as RustSpain. Boongarust keeps that list by hand, by hostname and address. Everything else is a community or modded server.
How many people are on public Rust servers right now: 71,995, spread across 11,522 servers. That figure moves fast, and Boongarust refreshes it every five minutes. Below, the same players split by modded, game mode, group size, gather rate, region and how recently the server wiped. Peak today hit 96,802. The record stands at 145,095. A handful of servers take a huge share, and the top of the list looks nothing like the bottom.

How many people are playing Rust right now?
The number at the top of this page is the live count of players on public Rust servers, updated every five minutes. It swings hard through the day, often by more than double between the quietest and busiest hours. 719 more are waiting in queues to get onto full servers.
Why does this differ from Steam's player count?
Steam counts everyone with Rust open, including menus, loading screens and private servers. This page counts only players on publicly listed servers. That is also why it can split the total by server type and region.
When is Rust busiest?
European evenings, most days. The busiest hour comes when EU players are on and US players are arriving. Australian evenings land in the UK morning, and US evenings run past midnight in the UK.
Do more people play modded or vanilla Rust?
More players are on modded servers in total, mostly because there are far more modded servers to join, not because each one is busier. The vanilla servers that are busy tend to be very busy. The split on this page is live and shifts as servers report.
